The Archives of Yugoslavia prepared exhibition of the archival documents Belgrade – Tunisia: Century of Friendship. Diplomatic relations from the establishment up to the present day. The exhibition is realized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Belgrade, the National Archives of Tunisia and the Diplomatic Archives of Serbia and Tunisia..

 

Director of the Archives of Yugoslavia Milan Terzić, at the presence of various guests, representatives of the diplomatic corps in the Republic of Serbia, representatives of scientific and cultural life, colleagues, greeted the present on the opening of the exhibition held on June 12, 2018. saying that the Archives of Yugoslavia continues with its tradition to prepare exhibitions on diplomatic relations. When Tunisia is in question, the story of bilateral relations coincides with the First World War, when from January to March 1916, 17.814 refugee Serbs, ill and wounded disembarked in Bizerte to be cured and recuperate.

 

After that, H.E. Seyf Allah Rejeb Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to the Republic of Serbia greeted the audience pointing out that the title of the exhibition Belgrade- Tunisia: Century of Friendship denotes century of solidarity, respect, understanding and compassion of two countries Tunisia and Serbia. Tunisia even today remembers that Yugoslavia was one of the first countries to recognize independence of Tunisia. Sympathy and solidity expressed in this way presented good foundation for excellent understanding between two countries, especially two leaders, President J.B. Tito and Habib Bourguiba.

 

Mrs. Tamara Rastovac-Sijamašvili, Deputy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia talked in the name of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ivica Dačić, saying that it has been a great pleasure and honor to open the exhibition since the friendship that has been started in the hard times is of longer duration than one created in pleasant times and joy. Good relations are marked with the fact that Agreement on Visa Liberation Regime dating from former times is still in force and it presents the first Agreement of a kind signed with some of the African countries, as well as that Belgrade was a host to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia in December last year, being the first high official from Tunisia after 1991.

 

Thanking to the organizers and the authors and the hosts of the exhibition at the end of her speech, Mrs. Sijamašvili said that the exhibits present obligation to preserve existing friendship and cooperation and to strengthen it more. After those words, the exhibition was officially opened.

 

The exhibition whose authors are Dušan Jončić and Ranka Rađenović consists of 150 documents and photographs and is accompanied by catalogue in Serbian and French.

 

The exhibition will be opened to June 25, 2018, every working day (except Monday) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p. m.
