From Antwerp to Seoul. Participation of Serbian Olympians (Yugoslavia) in the Summer Olympics (1920–1988)
At the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, starting at 7:00 PM, there will be a solemn opening of the exhibition of archival documents and photographs From Antwerp to Seoul. Participation of Serbian Olympians (Yugoslavia) in the Summer Olympics (1920–1988). Exhibition presents the participation of Serbian Olympians as representatives of the common Yugoslav state (the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes / Yugoslavia and the Federal People's Republic / Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) in the period from 1920 to 1988, i.e. from the VII Summer Olympic Games in Antwerp (Anvers) to the XXIV Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, which are also the last games in which representatives of the great Yugoslav state participated. The exhibition was created on the basis of archival materials and photographs of the Archives of Yugoslavia that testify to the development of Olympic sports in Yugoslavia and the world, primarily archival materials of the Yugoslav Olympic Committee fund and the Tanjug photo library, and brings materials on the preparations of Yugoslav athletes, departure and participation in the Games, social life of athletes during the Games, medals won, return from the Games, reactions of the Yugoslav public to the results of the Games, as well as the efforts that the Yugoslav Olympic Committee invested in organizing the participation of athletes in the Games. Certain documents and photographs testifying to the participation of Serbian Olympians in the Summer Olympic Games from the funds and collections of the Archives of Yugoslavia at this exhibition are being presented to the public for the first time.
