Moskow: The Promotion of the book "Russian Physicians in Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes/Yugoslavia, Biographical Dictionary and Questionnaires (1918-1946)"

The book "Russian Physicians in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes/Yugoslavia, Biographical Dictionary and Questionnaires" is mutual project of the Archives of Yugoslavia and Solzhenitsyn House for the Russian Diaspora from Moscow. This bilingual publication is dedicated to the Russian physicians, emigrants who lived and worked on the territory of former Yugoslavia.

Book editors are Milan Medaković, Ranka Ranđenović and Nada Petrović from the Archives of Yugoslavia and Marina Sorakin, Head of the Scientific Center and Mihail Gorinov Younger, scientific associate from Solzhenitsyn House for the Russian Diaspora from Moscow.

At the promotion held on December 5, 2014 at Solzhenitsyn House for the Russian Diaspora, Marina Sorokina, Miladin Milošević, Acting Director of the Archives of Yugoslavia, Ranka Rađenović and Mihail Gorinov Younger addressed the public.

Work on the book was interesting and challenging, since it was the first time in historiography that local Russian physicians working in Serbia were presented. Life of Russian emigration was shown, actively integrated into Serbian society through vivid interaction at all levels. Many of the characters from the book "do not languish in the exile" but they took specialized training. Good example is biography of Aleksandar Solon who completed his professional career in Switzerland. Russian physicians comprised 13 % out of total number of highly educated Russian emigrants and they greatly contributed to the system of medical protection in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and later Yugoslavia.

The book won respect within the scientific circles in both Russia and Serbia – the authors of the publication started receiving additional information from their colleagues historians from various Russian archives. The conclusion was that the book only brought number of questions and that it was only the beginning of the work in this field.
