On the occasion of the International Archives Day, the Archives of Yugoslavia set up the exhibition of archival documents The Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the League of Nations. On the opening day on June 9th, 2014 at the presence of numerous guests, representatives of diplomatic corps in the Republic of Serbia, representatives of scientific and cultural establishment, Miladin Milošević, Acting Director of the Archives of Yugoslavia addressed the guests, reminding them that International Archives Day was established at General Assembly of International Council of Archives (ICA) in Quebec, Canada, stressing that: "Celebration of International Archives Day is not for its own sake" and that the Archives of Yugoslavia being member of ICA of A category has been celebrating it for the fourth time as a date. He stressed that: "By celebrating the International Archives Day in the Archives of Yugoslavia, we want to point out among other things, the importance of not only the Archives of Yugoslavia but also of all our Archives being state institutions and cultural institutions, their significance for science, especially historical science, without archives and archival documents there would be no solid ground for historians and no real historical science…" At the end of his addressing he commented on exhibition of archival documents: "We singled out thematic unit from foreign policy and diplomatic history that hasn’t been treated in our historiography and little is known about it, even among expert circles and that hasn’t been the subject of any exhibition until today."

After Miladin Milošević, Dejan Ristić, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia addressed the audience saying: "I am using this opportunity to refer to the phenomena of remembrance/memory and the importance of archives and the role of archival institutions." He reminded that: "The archives as this one keeping the memory of the country that no longer exists are institutions that express their role and significance through complexity of archival documentation preserved in depots and with knowledge and experience of the professionals who take a proper care of that heritage" adding that our individual and collective knowledge and thinking of mutual Yugoslav past is inconceivable without Archives of Yugoslavia." Expressing thanks to the archivists for the things they do and appreciating results of their work he congratulated International Archives Day in the name of the Ministry of Culture and Information believing that: "All necessary conditions are being established to gradually change our attitude toward institutions that are not depots of archival documents but powerful protector from oblivion.

Ivica Dačić, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, opened the exhibition. He reminded that the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was one of the countries that participated in creation and foundation of the League of Nations, emphasizing that the same as the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the League of Nations promoted peace, "there is also no dilemma for today’s Serbia that sustainable peace between the nations can be obtained only through negotiations and respectability of international law. "He emphasized that even so the League of Nations did not have power to prevent new, bigger and more terrible world conflict, foundation of the United Nations just at the end of the Second World War, confirmed correctness of multilateral approach in solving mutual global provocations. Minister officially opened exhibition, believing that exhibited documents will help the public to better understand the activity of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the League of Nations.

Exhibition of the documents Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the League of Nations, over 225 documents and photos tell the story about creation of the League of Nations, activities of the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Yugoslavia in the League of Nations and permanent delegates Milutin Jovanović, Jovan Dučić, Konstantin Fotić, Ilija Sumenković and Ivan Subotić, participation of the delegation of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia at the General Assembly Sessions of the League of Nations, members of this delegations and especially delegates that had been appointed as chair and vice presidents at the Assembly Sessions of the League of Nations. The Assembly of the League of Nations on several occasions delivered recognitions to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia by appointing its first delegates chair of the Assembly Meeting of the League of Nations and Council. Momčilo Ninčić, minister of External Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was appointed vice president on the IV (1923) and VI (1925) General Assembly and on VII (1926) General Assembly he was appointed president. Vojislav Marinković, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was appointed vice president on IX (1928) and on 59th the General Assembly he was appointed president (1930). Konstantin Fotić, permanent delegate of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia at the League of Nations in Genève was appointed vice president of the Assembly on the XIV Assembly Meeting held in (1933). Bogoljub Jevtić, Prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was appointed president at XV Assembly Meeting held in 1934. Božidar Purić, Member of the Parliament and authorized Minister in Paris was appointed vice president at XVII Assembly Meeting (1936). Chapter on the League of Nation Council, presents relevant documents regarding appointment of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia non-permanent member within two periods: 1929-1932 (from session 57-68) and 1938-1939 (from session103-107). Permanent Secretariat of the League of Nations and its work are illustrated by reports of permanent delegates of the Kingdom of Serbs Croats and Slovens. Through chapters Contracts, Political Matters, Legal Matters, Disarming, Minorities, Economy Matters, Social Matters, Traffic and Transit, problems that League of Nations had to deal with through its bodies are presented. Numerous photographs and reports of the member of delegations of the League of Nations of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia from the conferences present engagement of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in those matters. Thematic units, Permanent Court of International Justice and International Labor Organization present activity of Yugoslav representatives in those organizations. Through the reports of the Permanent Court of International Justice members and members of International Labor Organization as well as through other documents, one learns about the problems that those organizations had to deal with and about the role of Yugoslav representatives in those organizations. Exhibited documents belong to the fonds and collections of the Archives of Yugoslavia and part of the documents was obtained from the Museum of the League of Nations from Geneva.

The exhibition will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. until 15 September 2014.
