Day of the Archives of Yugoslavia and the Promotion of the Sixth Volume of the Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the Year 1935
Belgrade, January 23, 2012 The Day of the Archives of Yugoslavia was marked on the 24th January 2012 with the promotion of the sixth volume of the Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the year 1935, for which the organizer was Nada Petrović. In the presence of numerous guests, representatives of diplomatic corps, representatives of the Archives of the Republik/a Srpska, the Archives of the Republic of Serbia, historical and other scientific institutes and cultural institutions, the ceremony was opened by Miladin Milošević, acting director of the Archives of Yugoslavia. Mr. Milošević listed the achievements of the Archives of Yugoslavia over the past two years, in the period after 2010 when the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Archives of Yugoslavia was marked. He emphasized that the auxiliary building in the courtyard of the Archives was returned, and its area of 850 m2 was to be renovated to accommodate the storage of archives. Another significant achievement, made with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, is that the Archives of Yugoslavia has been connected to the city gas supply which greatly contributes to the security of the archival material that is kept in its depots. Predrag Marković, Minister of Culture, Information and Information Society of the Republic of Serbia stressed that it is evident from the Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the year 1935, containing reports from 18 countries and the League of Nations, that these were the years of the greatest world crisis and added that it was nice that the book came out in a year that marked two centuries of diplomacy: "Writers, sociologists will only seek to illustrate the arguments when dealing with this period, and for historians this is a relief because all is in one place", said the Minister of Culture. Speaking of the Archives of Yugoslavia, Marković said that things should "be called after their real name," adding that indeed this was the Archives of Yugoslavia, that it would continue to be called so, despite the dilemmas that had existed in previous years, and that this would be established by law. Marković reminded that the Law on Archives and Archival Material, after many years of work, had been submitted to the National Assembly and that he hoped that at the first session it would be discussed and adopted. Last year 12 million dinars was allocated from the budget for the Archives of Yugoslavia, and the minister announced that more resources would be allocated this year for periodicals. Prof. Ph.D. Ljubodrag Dimić spoke about the volumes (total 6) of the edition Sources for the History of International Relations 1930-1940, and the sixth volume that was promoted – by Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the year 1935, expert analysis of the report, historical events, Yugoslav diplomacy and diplomats, who were representatives of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia abroad. Professor Dimić, who also wrote the foreword for the fourth edition of the book, stressed that the continuity of publishing volumes of the edition was to be highly accalimed and congratulated the Archives of Yugoslavia and Nada Petrović, the editor. Prof. Ph.D. Mira Radojević, who wrote the foreword for the sixth volume of the Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the year 1935, in her presentation elaborated the general and the dismal political scene of Europe during the year 1935, pointing out that as European democracies grew weaker, fascism grew stronger. The editor of the sixth volume of the Report of the MFA of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the year 1935, Nada Petrović thanked Prof. Ph.D. Mira Radojevićand Prof. Ph.D. Ljubodrag Dimić for their words of praise and pointed out that Mira Radojević with her preface had enriched the edition offering readers a synthesized image of time and events in the year 1935. Department of History – of the Department of History of Yugoslavia and General Contemporary History of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy, gave full support to the project of the Archives of Yugoslavia. Archival material is ultimately the prime source of history, and today, through various forms of the media a multitude of opinions, interpretations, publications and sensationalism is available - Nada Petrović said. It is therefore the reason why the Archives of Yugoslavia promotes switching back to historical sources through the publication of archival material. Promotion of the Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the year 1935 was followed by a presentation of all six volumes of the Reports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia from 1930 to 1935. Numerous guests were able to see photographs of presidents of the Governments of the Kingdom of SCS / Yugoslavia, ministers of foreign affairs, representatives of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia abroad: Jovan Dučić, Milan Rakić, Aleksandar Vukcević, Branko Lazarević, Leonid Pitamec, Božidar Purić, Konstantin Fotić and others. Presented were photographs of the buildings of embassies and consulates of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia abroad. The most pleasing segment of the presentation represented photographs of parliamentary deputies uniforms of the deputies Vladimir Milanović and Ivo Andrić.
