The Archives of Yugoslavia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia organized an exhibition entitled "The First Conference of Heads of State or Governments of Non-Aligned Countries, Belgrade 1961", on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Belgrade Conference.

December 10 and December 17 Students of history at Belgrade University visited Archives

On 10 and 17 December 2010, Prof. Ljubodrag Dimić PhD held tutorial sessions for fourth year students of history from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade on the premises of the Archives of Yugoslavia. Nada Petrović and Milan Medaković, Department Heads of the Archives of Yugoslavia, informed the students of the general activities, possibilities for researching archival holdings, of publishing activities, reading room, repositories for keeping archival material, and finding aids. Zorica Netaj talked to the students about the history of photography and the collection of photographs held by the Archives. Prof. Ljubodrag Dimić explained to his students the ways to research and use archival holdings in historiography. The students had an opportunity to see original documents from the following fonds: Emigrant Government, Kingdom of Yugoslavia Court, Kingdom of Yugoslavia Ministry of Trade and Industry, Milan Stojadinović’s Collection and Kingdom of Yugoslavia Ministry of Education.

November, 19 2010 Promotion of Publication The History of Cacak, Chronology from Prehistory to 2000

The Archives of Yugoslavia and the Intermunicipal Historical Archives of Cacak, organized at the Archives of Yugoslavia on 19th November 2010, the promotion of the book Istorija Čačka, Hronologija od praistorije do 2000. godine(The History of Cacak, Chronology from Prehistory to 2000.) The authors of the book are Goran Davidovic and Lela Pavlovic. Guests were welcomed by the host, Miladin Milosevic, acting director of the Archives of Yugoslavia. Radovan M. Marinkovic, writer from Cacak, Dr. Ljubodrag Ristic, from the Balkan Institute, and Lela Pavlovic, director of the Inter-municipal Archives of Cacak spoke at the promotion. The program was conducted by Slobodan Nikolic, professor of literature of the Cacak Grammar School. The promotion was enriched by Ratko and Radisa Teofilovic who interpreted Serbian folk songs.

October, 15 2010 Students from Slovenia at the Archives of Yugoslavia

Master level students of andragogy and pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana, and students of andragogy of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade visited the Archives of Yugoslavia on 15 October 2010. The meeting of students from Slovenia and Serbia was organised by the Club of Andragogy Students from University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philosophy in the period from 14 to 17 October 2010. The students from Slovenia wished to visit the Archives of Yugoslavia, learn about its functioning, manner of researching archival materials, fonds and collections and its finding aids. On 15 October 2010, during their visit to the Archives, Nada Petrović and Milan Medaković, Department Heads in the Archives of Yugoslavia, talked to them about the functioning of the institution, possibilities for researching archival holdings, publishing activities, reading room and the repositories for keeping the archive materials. The students stayed in the Archives from 12 to 2 p.m.

July 19, 2010 History Students from Russian Federation at the Archives of Yugoslavia

The students of the Faculty of History – the Department for the History of the Balkans of the Ural State University from Yekaterinburg, on a study visit to Belgrade, visited the Archives of Yugoslavia accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ljubodrag Dimić and Dr. Aleksandar Životić. They were informed about the work of the Archives, saw the exhibition Yugoslav Government 1918-2006 and in the reading room they learnt about the finding aids of the fonds and collections of the Archives. Their visit to Belgrade will last until 8th August 2010 and they will spend that time researching the archival material of the Archives of Yugoslavia and the Archives of Serbia. On behalf of the Archives of Yugoslavia, the students were greeted by Miladin Milošević, Acting Director of the Archives and Nada Petrović, Head of Department at the Archives.

May 27, 2010 Archives of Yugoslavia was awarded a Letter of Acknowledgement

In the jubilee year of the 50th anniversary of the Institute for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of the City of Belgrade, at the celebration staged on 27th May 2010, the Archives of Yugoslavia was awarded Letter of Acknowledgement "for extensive years of cooperation and exceptional contribution to the preservation, promotion and affirmation of immovable cultural heritage on the territory of the city of Belgrade". The building of the Archives of Yugoslavia has been enlisted as a cultural heritage monument and, as an urban architectural building, enjoys previous heritage protection status.

May 19, 2010 History Students from Kosovska Mitrovica and Belgrade at the Archives of Yugoslavia

On 19th May 2010 the Archives of Yugoslavia hosted the best students of history from the Faculty of Philosophy from Kosovska Mitrovica, with their Assistant Professor M.A. Dalibor Elezović and the Faculty of Philosophy from Belgrade with Professor Dr. Ljubodrag Dimić. Together with Professor. Dr. Ljubodrag Dimić and the 3rd and 4th year students of history, the Archives also hosted the youngest Doctor of Historical Sciences Aleksandar Životić, Dr. Slobodan Selinić and future doctors Nataša Milićević and Vladimir Cvetković. The history students were welcomed by Miladin Milošević, Acting Director of the Archives of Yugoslavia. Nada Petrović and Milan Medaković, Heads of Departments at the Archives of Yugoslavia, informed the students how this institution operates, about its fonds and collections, means and possibilities of research, publishing activities, the reading room and depots. It was a special honor and pleasure to hear Dr. Ljubodrag Dimić’s presentation about the history of the Yugoslav History Department of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, about professors who were the founders of the Department, the importance and value of the Archives in studying topics referring to the history of Yugoslavia, fonds containing archival material about Kosovo and Metohija, the tasks and the necessity of historical sciences, as well as future historians, in enlightening and researching certain segments of the history of Yugoslavia, especially that of Kosovo and Metohija. The students saw the exhibition of archival documents of the Yugoslav Government 1918-2006 with expert explanations from Prof. Dr. Ljubodrag Dimić and Dušan Jončić, one of the authors of the exhibition. The encounter was also an opportunity to agree upon future cooperation between the two faculties and the Archives of Yugoslavia. It was agreed to organize, in the semesters to come, more such educational gatherings of History students in Belgrade and Kosovska Mitrovica.

October 29, 2009 Forum: SAVING AND SHARING MEMORY WITH OTHERS

The Archives of Yugoslavia, in cooperation with the Nikola Tesla Museum, initiated a forum entitled SAVING AND SHARING MEMORY WITH OTHERS. By presenting the work of the Archives, as well as that of other cultural heritage protection institutions holding archival materials, the organizers aimed at initiating the exchange of experience and encouraging expert discussions on the application of contemporary answers in domestic archival theory and practice. The first case study is dedicated to the personal archives of Nikola Tesla. Presentations of experts of the Nikola Tesla Museum and experts involved in projects of the Museum, the exhibits of the Museum, projections and presentations of Museum editions, all represent answers to the complex task of processing the personal archives of Nikola Tesla and making them available to the public.

June 4, 2009 Visit to the Archives of Kosovska Mitrovica University School of Philosophy history students

The Archives of Yugoslavia was visited on June 4, 2009 by 20 students from the History Department of the Kosovska Mitrovica School of Philosophy and assistant lecturer Dalibor Elezović, M.A. Nada Petrović and Milan Medaković, department heads at the Archives of Yugoslavia informed the students about the Archives, its fonds and collections, history and building. Dušan Jončić, one of the authors of the Yugoslavia in International relations 1918-1922 exhibition, showed the exhibition to the students. Within further cooperation between these cultural and research institutions, the exhibition of archival documents Yugoslavia in International Relations 1918-1922 will be organized at the Kosovska Mitrovica School of Philosophy. The exhibition will be open during the international symposium on Kosovo and Metohija in the civilization processes on October 7-11, 2009.

March 11, 2009 Cooperation of the Archives and the Andragogy Department of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy

Cooperation of the Archives and the Andragogy Department of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy With the aim of educating the young and getting them familiar with institutions of culture, the Archives of Yugoslavia was visited on March 11, 2009 by 30 students of the first year of the Andragogy group from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. In agreement with Katarina Popović, Ph.D., Dean of the Andragogy Department, students were informed about the Archives of Yugoslavia, its history, building, competencies, reading room and means of researching and using the holdings of the Archives by Nada Petrović and Milan Medaković, directors of the Archives of Yugoslavia.

Practical Training of the Employees of the Department for Archival Work and Registry Material of the National Bank of Serbia at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro The practical training was attended by 12 employees (6 with university level education, 2 with post-secondary level education and 4 with secondary level education). They implemented their practical training at the Department for Archival Material Categorization, the Department for Information, Archival Material Publishing and International Cooperation, as well as at the Department for Supervision, Protection and Application of the Archival Material of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro.

Cooperation of the Archives with the History Department of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Belgrade University Within the cooperation of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro and the History Department of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Belgrade University, professors of the Department of the History of Yugoslavia, Ljubodrag Dimić, Ph.D. and Mirjana Radojević, Ph.D., together with students of the third and fourth year, visited the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro on 10th November and 5th December 2008. The goal of the visit was to get the students familiar with the Archives, its history, fonds and collections, conditions and means of using the archival material in scientific purposes. This was conducted by Miladin Milošević, the acting Director of the Archives. The students saw the exhibition of archival documents “Yugoslavia in International Relations 1918-1992”, expertly presented by Dušan Jončić, one of the authors of the exhibition.

Seminar: Historical Sources in History Teaching The Archives of Serbia and Montenegro were visited by history professors of Belgrade secondary and elementary schools on December 13, 2008, as part of the seminar Historical Sources in History Teaching. The seminar was organized by the Duga – Co agency with the support of the Archives of Serbia, whose program has been included into the Catalogue of Programs of Professional Training of Employees Working in the Field of Education for the school year of 2008/2009, reg. no. 147. The objective of the seminar is for professors to educate through their teaching in the best possible manner, students for their future research work and how to use the archival records as a first grade historical source. On this occasion a lecture for 37 professors of history of Belgrade schools was organized at the Archives. Nada Petrović, Head of Information in the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro, informed the professors about the history of the Archives, organization, activities, competencies, fonds and collections, cooperation with researchers etc. All present professors were informed about the exhibition of archival documents “Yugoslavia in International Relations 1918-1992” by Dušan Jončić, one of the authors of the exhibition.

Preparation of exhibitions of archival documents

Cooperation was established with the Serbian Foreign Ministry Department for International Legal Affairs in order to research documents for the exhibition "Prince Paul Karadjordjević, Prince Regent 1934 -1941", and the Yugoslav Film Archives prepared a set of documentaries on Prince Paul, which was presented during the opening of the exhibition.

exhibition was presented in Užice, Požarevac, Zrenjanin and Šabac.

The exhibition "Аlexander I - King of Yugoslavia" was presented in Čačak.

Preparation of the editions of the Archives

Dr Momčilo Pavlović, Director of the Modern History Institute, wrote the preface and was the reviewer for the second book of Kingdom of Yugoslavia Foreign Ministry Reports for 1931.

Visits

The Archives of Vojvodina visited the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro on January 30, 2007. The colleagues were informed about the work of the Archives, history of the building, they visited the reading room and were shown the depots. The visit was organized on the occasion of the exhibition Alexander I – King of Yugoslavia 1918-1934. Archives of Serbia and Montenegro workers attended the marking of Archives Day at the Archives of Serbia on December 14, 2007.

Preparation of exhibitions of archival documents

Cooperation was established with the Museum of Yugoslav History and Foreign Ministry – Office for International Legal Affairs, in order to research documents for the "Тито – Стаљин"."Тito – Stalin" exhibition.

The preface for the exhibition catalogue was written by Prof. Dr Ljubodrag Dimić (Department for the Yugoslav History of the School of Philosophy).

At the Yugoslav Film Archives a video recording was prepared on the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation between the USSR and Yugoslavia in Moscow on April 11, 1945.

Exhibitions outside the Archives building

The exhibition Diplomacy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia 1918-1941 was presented in Užice and Zaječar.

Promotions of the Archives editions

The promotion of the first book from the edition Sources for the History of International Relations, Reports of the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1930 was held in Užice and Kragujevac.

There were contacts and cooperation with the Belgrade City Assembly Culture Secretariat and media regarding the media presentation of the exhibition and international round table Tito-Stalin.

Cooperation between archives

At the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro on May 19, 2005 the exhibition Kragujevac in the Old Maps, Plans and Drawings was opened. It was prepared by the Kragujevac-based Historic Archives of Šumadija.

Cooperation with scientific institutions

In 2005, the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro intensified cooperation with the Institute for Modern History, Institute for the Recent History of Serbia, School of Philosophy, archives and other scientific institutions. A form of cooperation with these institutions is the publication and promotion of collections of archival documents, books, monographs and other publications created on the basis of research of archival holdings at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro.

A collection of papers Big Forces and Small States in the Cold War 1945-1955, the Case of Yugoslavia was issued and promoted. The collection was published in cooperation between the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro and the Department for the History of Yugoslavia at the Belgrade University's School of Philosophy, Institute for the Recent History of Serbia and LSE Cold War Research Centre in London. The papers were presented at a symposium held at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro in early November 2003. The collection was promoted on June 15, 2005 at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro, and speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr Milan Ristović and Prof. Dr Ljubodrag Dimić.

In cooperation with the Institute for Modern History two books were presented on January 26, 2005:
1. Quarantine for Ideas – Camps for the Isolation of Suspicious Elements in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes 1919-1922, by Mr. Goran Miloradović and
2. Belgrade University in 1944-1952, by Mr. Dragomir Bondžić.
The books were presented by Prof. Dr Milan Ristović, Prof. Dr Ljubodrag Dimić, Dr Momčilo Pavlović and the authors.
Another book was presented at the Archives Inhabitants of Mt Rudnik and Takovo in Serbia's Liberation Wars in 1912-1918, by Isidor Đuković, which was partly based on the archival holdings of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro. The promotion was organized in cooperation with the municipality of Gornji Milanovac on April 12, 2005.
In cooperation with the Institute for the Recent History of Serbia, at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro on December 14, 2005, two books by the Institute's associates were presented. The books were written on the basis of the research conducted at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro:
1. Primary Education in Serbia in 1918-1941, by Dr Momčilo Ilić and
2. Belgrade in 1960-1970, Supplies and Food, by Slobodan Selinić, M.A.
The books were presented by Dr Momčilo Mitrović, Prof. Dr Ljubodrag Dimić and Dragomir Bondžić, M.A.

Successful cooperation continued with the School of Philosophy – Department for the History of Yugoslavia. At the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro a so-called – student workshop was organized for the students of the final year of history. With their Professor Ljubodrag Dimić, according to the agreed program, students visited the Archives on four occasions (in April and December). They were informed about the activities of the Archives, funds and collections and were shown how to use the holdings. They got the insight into a number of means of information (inventories and lists) and documents from the fund for the topics of their interest. Cooperation with the School of Philosophy – Department for the Yugoslav History, has lasted for a number of years and will continue to our mutual satisfaction.

Cooperation with the Megatrend University started at their request. Megatrend students had exercise at the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro, they were informed about the history of the Archives building, work of the Archives, depot and way for using the holdings. Cooperation with Megatrend is planned to continue.

Inter-archival cooperation

The Military Archives visited the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro. They were informed about the work of all departments of the Archives and they showed special interest in the electronic processing of the means of information about funds and collections. Talks were held with colleagues from other archives in connection with future visits in order to get information about the work of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro.

For the Hronologija (Chronology) project of the Historic Archives of Belgrade, archivists of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro conducted the research, selected photographs from the XX century and made an inventory with signatures and captions. For the purpose of realization of the project of the exhibition Archival Holdings on Relations between Serbia/Yugoslavia and France the Archives of Serbia received information about the archival holdings of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro and specific documents on the relations between the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes/Yugoslavia and France. They were also pointed to the literature that may serve for the monitoring of chronology in these relations.

Cooperation with Scientific Institutions

The Belgrade University's School of Philosophy – Department of the History of Yugoslavia and the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro organized practical exercises for the final year students of history. With Professor Ljubodrag Dimić, students visited the Archives on several occasions during the winter and summer semesters. They were informed about the activities, funds and collections of the Archives and were shown how to use the holdings. They could see several means of information (inventories and lists) and fund material for the topics of their interest. It was agreed that this type of cooperation with the School of Philosophy continue and the intensity and contents of this cooperation were specified.

The Archives of Serbia and Montenegro in cooperation with the Municipal Assembly of Savski Venac and Isidora Sekulić Library organized on June 30, 2004 a celebration on the occasion of the presentation of the Isidora Sekulić literary award. The award was received by Professor Vladeta Jerotić.

At the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro, the book Banks in the Kingdom of Serbia 1878-1914 by academician Andrej Mitrović was promoted.

Past activities

History students in the school years 2002/03, 2003/04, 2004/05, 2005/06 and 2006/07, who attended practical exercises in the field of archival science, showed the greatest interest in the fund of the Court of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. They were interested in the documents about the culture and situation at the court, family photographs of the Karadjordjević dynasty, etc. In addition to that, they were interested in the documents on the foreign and internal policies of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, assassination of King Alexander I Karadjordjević in Marseilles in 1934, prostitution in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the 1930s, political parties in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, foreign trade and economic relations between the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and other countries, trial of Draža Mihailović, religious communities and their relations with the FPRY, Yugoslavia's relations with the Cominform member-states and other topics. For these topics students could see the archival holdings from the following funds and collections: Court of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (АЈ-74), Interior Ministry of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (АЈ-14), Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (АЈ-334), Collection of Milan Stojadinović (АЈ-37), Communist Party of Yugoslavia (АЈ-507), Government in Exile (АЈ-103), Ministry of Religious Communities of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (АЈ-69), Central Press Bureau (АЈ-38), Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (АЈ-66), Embassy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia to Turkey – Ankara (АЈ-370), Embassy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia to France – Paris (АЈ-388).

Students of the School of Philology – Department of Librarian Studies visited the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro in March 2007 with Prof. Dr Bojan Đorđević. Director of the Archives of Serbia and Montenegro Miladin Milošević informed them about the history and work of the Archives, archival holdings, number of funds and collections in the possession of the Archives. Head of the Department for the Protection of Archival Holdings Milan Medaković showed students the storerooms where 811 archival funds and collections are held.
